Tata Global Beverages, the second-largest player in the world in the branded tea category, has announced its entry into the branded instant coffee business in the Indian market.

The company said in a statement that after leading the Indian tea market with its iconic Tata Tea brand, it had taken the step to leverage its product, marketing and retail expertise to enter the branded coffee space in the country.

Sourced primarily from Tata Coffee’s own plantations in South India, these coffees are roasted and processed to perfection, making Grand – the new brand – an intensely rich, fresh and aromatic coffee, the statement said.

“The coffee category in India is poised to grow in the coming years and Tata Global Beverages is well positioned to enter this category. Tata Coffee Grand gives consumers the convenience of instant coffee along with taste and flavour,” the statement quoted Sushant Dash, Regional President – India, as saying.

Indians love their tea, but the coffee market is growing thanks to a growing café culture. The Indian coffee market, predominantly in its south, is worth Rs 2,500 crore of which the instant coffee market is 1,300 crore. The café market is about Rs 1,800 crore and growing at around 20 percent annually.
