The penetration of the mobile phone can never be under-estimated. A few weeks ago payments banks were drawing up plans to reach out to the unbanked using the mobile phone. Now, agrochemicals manufacturer Insecticides (India) Ltd has launched, for the first time in India, a mobile application for farmers and dealers in fertiliser and pesticides.
The app offers first-hand information about the latest available in agricultural products and their proper use. The company said in a statement that the app, Insecticide, can be downloaded on Android phones from the Google Play store free of charge.
India currently has almost 110 million mobile phone subscribers, many of who are in far flung areas of the country. They most often do not have access to the latest agricultural products available. Insecticides is expected to fill that void.
