India says central pool has 504.99 lakh tons of foodgrains 

India said the stock of foodgrains in the central Pool was 504.99 lakh tons at the start of December this year, adequate to meed the demand, the consumer affairs, food and public distribution minister said.

Ram Vilas Paswan told parliament that 236.20 lakh tons of rice (including paddy in terms of rice) and 268.79 lakh tons of wheat in the storage as against the total foodgrains stocking norms of 307.70 lakh tons.

Based on the current allocation norms, the estimated allocation of wheat and rice under public distribution system for the coming year is likely to be 298.35 lakh tons of rice and 250.16 lakh tons of wheat, the government said in a statement.
