India raises 2016 minimum support price for copra

India said it was raising the minimum support price of copra for the 2016 season in an effort to raise investment in coconut cultivation.

A government statement said the minimum support price (MSP) for milling copra had been increased to 5,950/quintal from the earlier 5,550 rupees/quintal.

The MSP of “Ball Copra” has been increased to 6240 rupees/ quintal for 2016 season from 5,830/quintal in 2015, it added.

The National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Limited and National Cooperative Consumer Federation of India Limited would continue to act as Central Nodal Agencies to undertake price support operations in the coconut growing states, the statement said.
