India’s pulses procurement surpasses target   

Indian government agencies have procured 51,000 MT of kharif pulses for the buffer stock against the target of 50,000 MT, a government statement said.

It said the agencies have been asked to start procurement of masoor, gram dal and other Rabi pulses also, which have the total target of 100,000 MT. About 8,500 MT of dal already ordered from international markets is on the way to beat India’s persistence shortage of pulses that has added to food inflation and government concerns.

Area under production of oilseeds during 2015-16 has increased 2.1% and mustard production is expected to be higher by 600,000 MT.
