India warns of thunderstorms, squalls in next few days, urges farmers to save crops

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast thunderstorm accompanied with squall/hailstorm at some places over next three or four days, and asked farmers to quickly harvest mature crops.

It said an intense western disturbance currently lying over Iran and neighbourhood would affect Indian sub-continent from March 11, affecting various states.

 The IMD forecast rain/snowfall at most places over western Himalayan region mainly from March 1113 and rain/thundershowers at most/many places over plains of northwest India.

It forecast rain/thundershowers at few places over central and eastern India, and also in the northeastern states and Andhra Pradesh and Telengana.

The weather agency also issued multi hazard warnings as follows for the northern mountainous states and forecast isolated hailstorm over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi.

It urged farmers to maintain proper drainage channels, postpone irrigation, harvest matured crops at the earliest, move harvested crops to safer places and use hail nets etc to protect damage to orchards.
