India says revises 2022 solar power target sharply upwards

The Indian government has revised the National Solar Mission target of grid connected solar power projects from 20,000 MW by 2022 to 100,000 MW by that year, the power minister said in a written reply to a parliament question.

Piyush Goyal said whopping 6,000 billion rupees will be needed to install 100 gigawatt of solar power. Banks and financial institutions have given green commitments to finance up to 78,850 MW, he said.
