India’s oil import bill fell sharply in February, says government

India’s oil imports in February this year were valued at $4.767 billion, down 21.92 percent from a value of $6.106 billion in the corresponding period in 2015, the government said in a statement.

Oil imports during April-February 2015-16 were valued at $77.862 billion, which was 40.52 per cent lower than the oil imports of $130.9 billion in the corresponding period last year.

Non-oil imports during February 2016 were estimated at $22.512 billion, which was 0.47 percent lower than non-oil imports of $22.619 billion in February, 2015. Non-oil imports during April-February, 2015-16 were valued at $273.944 billion, which was 2.75 percent lower than the level of such imports valued at $281.697 billion in April-February 2014-15, the statement added.
