China to help Nepal explore for oil and gas

The Nepalese government has decided to carry out a feasibility study for mineral, gas and oil exploration in the western Dailekh district with Chinese help.

A six-member team from China will provide technical support during the endeavor and a report was expected in three years, Chinese media reported.

The Nepalese Ministry of Industry said the move was part of the agreement between China and Nepal during Nepalese Prime Minister K.P Sharma Oli’s visit to China in March, according to the Xinhua news agency.

Land-locked Nepal is heavily reliant on its southern neighbour India for petroleum products.
