India’s kharif crop sowing at 71.24 lakh hectare

Preliminary reports of crop coverage in the current kharif season show that the total sown area as on June 10 stood at 71.24 lakh hectare as compared to 76.65 lakh hectare at this time last year, a government statement said.

It said according to reports received from states, rice has been sown/transplanted in 5.75 lakh hectare, pulses in 1.46 lakh hectare, sugarcane in 44.38 lakh hectare and cotton in 9.87 lakh ha.

The details of the area covered so far and that covered during this time last year are given below:
