India has auctioned, allocated 82 coal mines under its 2015 law, says minister

India has so far auctioned or allotted 82 coal mines have under its Coal Mines (Special Provisions) Act, 2015, the coal minister told parliament in a written reply.

Piyush Goyal told the upper house that of the 82 coal mines, 31 had been sold through e-auction and the remaining had been given away by way of allotment.

The minister said no coal mine/block has been auctioned in the last one year under the provisions of the Act, but six mines were allotted to state government companies.

The government had not fixed any revenue generation target from the auction/allotment of coal mines, he added.
