India’s kharif crop sowing at slow pace, pulled down by a sharp fall in cotton and cereal acreage

The total sown area as on June 29 as per reports received from states stood at 165.21 lakh hectare as compared to 210.75 lakh hectare at the time last year due to a sharp fall in cotton and cereal acreage, a government statement said..

Rice has been sown/transplanted in 26.91 lakh ha, pulses in 10.72 lakh hectare, coarse cereals in 23.89 lakh hectare, sugarcane in 50.01 lakh hectare and cotton in 32.20 lakh hectare, the statement said.

The details of the area covered so far and that covered during this time last year are given below:
