Coronavirus crisis realigns Asia’s steel industry stars

Chinese steel-makers, in search of a way out of the U.S.-China trade war, have been on a blast furnace construction binge in Southeast Asia. As a result, the region’s capacity has swelled so significantly that the Southeast Asia Iron and Steel Institute has issued a warning: In the next few years, the region may face risks of overcapacity with a production increase of more than 61.5 million tons a year, reports Asian Nikkei Review
