India’s oilseeds production is set to rise by 4% to 39.9 million metric tonnes in 2021/22, according to the US Department of Agriculture.
The rise in output will lead to an increase in oilmeal output by 2% to 18.8 million tonnes, leaving around 2.9 million tonnes for exports. India’s oilmeal exports increased by 129% in the first five months of 2020/21 amid a global shortfall.
Higher production is based on expectations of a normal monsoon and near normal yields. During the year vegetable oil imports will rise by 1% to 14.5 million metric tonnes. India is the world’s largest importer of edible oils.
