Over 1.29 crore farmers earned around Rs 1.65 lakh core through government procurement at MSP

Paddy procurement reached at an all-time high this kharif marketing season (KMS), surpassing previous high of 773.45 lakh tonnes in KMS 2019-20. About 1.29 crore farmers were paid Rs. 1,64,951.77 crore at minimum support price during the ongoing KMS procurement Operations.

A total of 873.68 lakh tonness of paddy were bought from the farmers by the states till 23 August this year. This includes 707.69 lakh tonnes of kharif Crop and 165.99 lakh tonnes of Rabi crop. Last year, the corresponding purchase was at 763.01 lakh tonnes.

For the rabi marketing season (RMS), a quantity of 433.44 lakh tonnes of wheat has been procured so far exceeding previous high of 389.93 lakh tonnes during the previous rabi marketing season. The corresponding purchase last year was 389.93 lakh tonnes. About 49.20 Lakh farmers have already been benefitted from the ongoing RMS procurement operations with MSP value of Rs. 85603.57crore.

Further, based on the proposal from the States, approval was accorded for procurement of 109.58 lakh tonnes of Pulse and Oilseeds of Kharif Marketing Season 2020-21 & Rabi Marketing Season 2021 and Summer season 2021  for the States of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Telangana, Gujarat, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh under Price Support Scheme (PSS). 

The government through its nodal Agencies has also procured 11.91 lakh tonnes lentils which includes Moong, Urad, Tur, Gram, Masoor, Groundnut Pods, Sunflower seed,  Mustard Seed and Soyabean. At MSP, 6.96 lakh farmers were paid Rs. 6,686.59 crores in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Haryana, Odisha and Rajasthan. Similarly, 5089 tonnes of copra (the perennial crop) having MSP value of Rs.52.40 crore has been procured benefitting 3961 farmers in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu during the crops season 2020-21.
