Govt buys 56.62 lakh tonnes of paddy till now for the kharif marketing season for Rs 11,000 crore

The government said it has procured 56.62 lakh tonnes of paddy so far in the current kharif marketing season for over Rs 11,000 crore. The kharif marketing season (KMS) 2021-22 runs from October to September. Food Corporation of India (FCI) is the government’s nodal agency for procurement and distribution of foodgrains.

“Over 56.62 lakh tonnes of paddy has been procured in KMS 2021-22 up to October 17, 2021,” according to an official statement. The procurement took place in states and UTs of Chandigarh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.

“The kharif marketing season (KMS) 2021-22 at MSP commenced recently and has benefitted 371919 farmers with MSP value of Rs 11,099.25 crore,” the statement said.

Rabi Marketing Season (RMS) 2021-22 has concluded in wheat procuring States and a quantity of 433.44 lakh tonnes of wheat has been procured. This is an all-time high, as it has exceeded previous high 389.93 lakh tonnes of RMS 2020-21 against the last year corresponding purchase of 389.93 lakh tonnes.

About 49.20 lakh farmers have already been benefitted from the ongoing RMS procurement operations with MSP value of Rs. 85,603 crore. For the cropping year 2020-21 which includes Kharif 2020-21, Rabi 2021 and Summer 2021 seasons, the Government through its Nodal Agencies has procured 11,99,713.15 tonnes of Pulses and Oilseeds having MSP value of Rs.6,742.51 crore benefitting 7,02,368 farmers in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Haryana, Odisha and Rajasthan.
